Abstract

A new method of calculating black oil pseudofunctions from a fine grid simulation of a reservoir is given. These functions when used in a coarse grid simulation of the same reservoir will reproduce the accuracy of the original fine grid simulation. This accuracy results for any production rate even when used to coalesce non-communicating layers from the fine grid model into a single coarse grid layer. All previously published methods are accurate only for low viscous-gravity ratios, which correspond to a combination of a low production rate and goodvertical communication between layers in the reservoir.
